Who am I? Writer, musician, and digital storyteller.

My home: San Diego, California! I love this city. Growing up in the shadow of Cowles Mountain, in the suburbs, you get a different feel for the city than your average tourist – you realize some of the most fascinating, brilliant, creative, empathetic, and funny people in the world live here. But enough about my family…

Graduate of San Diego State University, B.A. in English with Honors.

My job: Content Strategist at Fluke. I love the people here – they’re just good people, and they’re damn smart too. And they work hard. Here at Fluke, I get to be a writer, telling stories about engineers and their 75+ year love affair with our tools, how archaeologists illuminate the past with ‘elemental vision,’ how to see machine failures coming and prevent failures, or, for example, floods of toxic ammonia gas. I get to be an SEO analyst, championing our content on Google with sophisticated keyword landscape mapping that gives us the power to laser in on what content updates will drive organic leads. And I get to be a leader: envisioning a strategy for our content, SEO, and UX/CRO rooted into listening to my customers and coworkers, and then charting a course to organic web revenue growth.

What am I writing? Currently, I’m writing a fantasy novel called Dance of the Painted King. A king learns to dance to honor the memory of his dead wife, and, taught by a mysterious voice in the depths of the palace, ends up unleashing an ancient magic on the realm at a royal ball. Later, a musician follows the footsteps of his archaeologist father and the secret he discovered on the ball’s eve. Glimpsing an old foe in the trees, a warrior in emerald armor slips away mid-battle to hunt him down. Mad with grief over his dead children, a kingsguard captain goes in search of whether his wife attended the ball that night, and what fate befell her. They meet a small, grey cat who seems to have all the answers.

Music! My love for music was ignited by Bob Dylan at the young age of 17. His lyrics “There must be some kind of way out of here” set me on a transcendental journey on which I realized I loved songwriting. Get a taste of my music at @alittlerich.

That’s great, Richard, that’s all really great, but what’s your favorite dog? Boston Terrier. Their souls are valiant, their licks are legendary, and their farts can vanquish your enemies.

My favorite travel destinations… you know, traveling in the heart and soul is the only traveling that really matters. But hey. If you can see a castle too? Now that’s just the best. My favorite travel memories include deer on Miyajima island, the Edinburgh festival, and playing at an open mic in Seattle.
